Children & Minors – iMeter Reader

This page explains how iMeter Reader protects children and young people under 16 and what rights parents and guardians have. It satisfies the information requirements under Art. 8 GDPR in conjunction with § 25(1) DDG.


§1 Age limit

iMeter Reader is not intended for children under 16 years of age.

Germany has set the age of consent for processing personal data when using information-society services at 16 years under Art. 8(1) GDPR in conjunction with § 25(1) DDG. Persons under 16 may only use the app with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.


§2 App Store age ratings

The technical age rating in the app store does not restrict purchase. Our offering is directed at adults and persons aged 16 and over.


§3 What we do with child accounts

If we become aware that a user under 16 has created an account without demonstrable consent from a parent or guardian, we will:

  1. Block the relevant account within 7 days of becoming aware.
  2. Permanently and irreversibly delete all personal data associated with that account within 7 days.

Legal bases: Art. 17(1)(a) GDPR (unlawful processing) and Art. 17(1)(f) GDPR (objection to processing involving children within the meaning of Art. 8).


§4 Rights of parents and guardians

Parents and guardians may exercise the following rights on behalf of a child:

  • Access (Art. 15 GDPR): What data about the child has been stored?
  • Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): Correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Complete deletion of all the child's data.
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR): Processing freeze.
  • Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): Provision of data in machine-readable format.
  • Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): Objection to further processing.

Right to lodge a complaint: You may at any time lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority, the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA):

§5 No marketing to minors

iMeter Reader directs no advertising at minors. We do not profile users in ways that could be used to target minors. We do not create re-marketing audiences based on user data that could be attributed to minors. Interest-based or behavioural advertising does not take place in any form.


§6 Educational use (future)

Should iMeter Reader in future offer special features for educational institutions, schools, or teaching staff, separate data processing agreements (DPA) in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR will be concluded with the respective educational bodies. This page will be updated accordingly.
