1. Overview

Welcome to iMeter Reader, a smart platform designed to help users monitor and manage their energy consumption, including electricity, gas, water, and heating fuels.

By accessing or using our platform — mobile, web, or desktop — you agree to these terms and conditions. Please read them carefully before using the service.

2. Services Provided

  • Register and manage energy contracts with electricity and utility providers.
  • Record and track meter readings manually or via AI-assisted scanning.
  • Receive consumption reports, cost estimates, and efficiency alerts.
  • Access offers from trusted energy providers integrated through APIs.
  • AI-powered automatic meter reading from photographs of your meter.

3. AI-Powered Meter Reading

iMeter Reader uses artificial intelligence to read meter values from photographs you submit. This process works as follows:

  • Image cropping: When you photograph your meter, the system captures only the relevant reading area (the cropped meter display), not the full image of your surroundings.
  • Local and external processing: Your cropped meter image may be processed by our local on-device AI models (Apple Vision / Google ML Kit) or, when local processing fails and you have consented, by our external AI sub-processor (OpenAI) to extract the reading value. See Privacy Policy § 16.1 for the cloud-fallback flow.
  • Accuracy disclaimer: AI-assisted readings are provided as best-effort estimates. You should always verify that the extracted reading matches your actual meter display. We provide no warranty regarding the accuracy of AI-generated readings.

4. User Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate contract and meter data for proper consumption tracking.
  • Ensure timely updates of meter readings for better cost predictions.
  • Verify AI-assisted meter readings before confirming them.
  • Understand that offers displayed are informational — actual contracts remain between users and providers.

5. Data Privacy & Security

The platform prioritizes user privacy and complies with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

  • Authentication: User accounts are secured through Keycloak, an industry-standard identity provider supporting secure authentication.
  • Encryption: Personal data is encrypted in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest.
  • Data minimization: We collect and store only the minimum data required to provide the service.
  • No data sales: We do not sell or share personal data with third parties outside of the services described here.
  • External AI providers: When external AI services are used to process meter readings or contract documents, only the cropped meter image or the contract document is sent — never your full photo, account name, or location data. External providers are treated as data processors under written Art. 28 GDPR agreements (see Privacy Policy Annex A).

6. Image Processing & No-Training Commitment

iMeter Reader does not use your meter images, contract documents, AI-chat messages, or any other content you submit to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model — neither our own models nor those of our sub-processors (e.g. OpenAI).

  • Transient processing only: Cropped meter images and contract PDFs sent to our backend are held only in memory for the duration of the AI request and discarded immediately afterwards. They are not written to disk on our servers and are not retained for training or any other purpose.
  • OpenAI: Inputs and outputs of our OpenAI API calls are not used by OpenAI to train its models (OpenAI API Data Usage Policy, as of 23 May 2026). OpenAI may retain them for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring only, after which they are automatically deleted.
  • On-device OCR (Apple Vision / Google ML Kit): runs locally on your device; no image is transmitted to Apple or Google.
  • No opt-in currently exists that would allow your content to be used for model training. If we ever introduce such an option in a future version, it would require a separate, explicit, freely-given consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. Silence, continued use of the app, or pre-ticked boxes would never count as consent.
  • No combined identity dataset: We do not maintain a training dataset tied to user identities — because we do not maintain a training dataset at all.

For the full data-flow details, see Privacy Policy § 6.3 (OpenAI), § 16 (AI-powered features), and § 16.5 (no-training commitment).

7. Data Retention

  • Transient processing images: Cropped meter images and contract PDFs are held only in memory while the AI request is being processed and are discarded immediately afterwards. They are never persistently stored on our servers and are not used for training.
  • Operational records: Your meter readings, contracts, and consumption history are retained as long as your account is active and as required for service delivery. Detailed per-category retention periods are in Privacy Policy § 8.
  • Account deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time in-app (Settings → Account → Delete account) or by contacting us. A 30-day grace period applies, after which all server-side data is cascade-deleted.

8. Limitations of Liability

iMeter Reader provides analytical tools and provider integrations but is not responsible for:

  • External provider contracts, billing errors, or third-party service issues.
  • Inaccurate AI meter readings — users are responsible for verifying readings before submission to their energy provider.
  • Temporary unavailability of AI processing services.
  • Actions taken by third-party energy providers based on data you share with them.

The service is provided as-is, with no warranties regarding the accuracy of AI-assisted meter readings or third-party data availability.

9. Future Updates

The platform may introduce additional features such as advanced AI analysis, IoT smart meter integration, invoice analysis, and additional provider partnerships. Material changes to these terms will be communicated to users in advance. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance of updated terms.
